How to Transfer a Child to an Online School Without Creating a Learning Gap

The riskiest moment in a school transfer is taking a child’s record from the previous school before the new one has confirmed the conditions of enrolment. The safer order is the opposite: choose the provider, check its documents, obtain written instructions and then complete the transfer.

1. Confirm who will actually enrol the child

The market includes licensed schools, learning platforms, courses and intermediaries. A polished site does not answer the essential question: which legal entity will enrol the pupil and issue education documents?

Ask for the provider’s licence, the legal party named in the agreement, and an explanation of where the pupil’s school record will be held. Also ask how learning is organised: whether teachers are involved, who reviews work, where parents see progress and whether live lessons are included in the selected format.

2. Look at the learning process through the child’s eyes

Adults tend to compare prices and documents, but the pupil will use the platform every day. If demo access is available, do not stop at the dashboard. Open a real lesson, task, deadline, grade record and the route for asking a question.

Dzherelo currently offers seven days of free demo access. That can be enough to test navigation and the presentation of material, but not enough to judge an entire academic year.

3. Obtain the document list in writing

Schools commonly request an application, a copy of the child’s birth certificate, previous education records and documents from the legal representative. The exact list depends on the grade, the transfer date and the child’s educational history.

Extra care is needed when a child:

  • transfers during a semester;
  • has studied abroad;
  • has followed a programme in a different sequence;
  • has lost some documents;
  • is changing both school and form of education.

In these situations, a general blog recommendation cannot replace a written answer from admissions.

4. Only then complete withdrawal from the previous school

Ask the new school exactly what the family needs to do and which documents it expects from the previous provider. Once the sequence is agreed, applications can be submitted and the school record transferred. This reduces the chance of a child ending up between two schools with no clear status.

5. Agree the first week of learning

Formal enrolment is not the end of the transfer. The pupil needs account access, a clear routine, a named person for technical and learning questions, and an explanation of where to begin. If the two programmes covered topics in a different order, identify what needs to be caught up and what the child has already completed.

Ask four practical questions:

  1. Where will current tasks appear?
  2. Who helps with technical and academic questions?
  3. How do parents see progress?
  4. What happens when programme topics do not match exactly?

Can a child transfer during the school year?

Often, yes. Confirm the date and procedure with the selected provider, as every child’s documents, grade and previous learning route are different.
